Founded
in 1978, the Downriver Council for the Arts is a non-profit,
501 ( c) 3 regional umbrella organization that represents, promotes
and serves the 21 Downriver communities. Our new temporary gallery, satellite exhibition sites, information
center, newsletter, and website provide up-to-date information on artistic,
cultural and special events to the nearly 400,000 residents of the
Downriver area.
The DCA is
currently located at 81 Chestnut in downtown Wyandotte, the former Masonic
Temple.
Working
closely with community-based arts organizations, service clubs, municipal
governments, schools and social agencies; the DCA:
- Provides
volunteer, educational and professional development opportunities
- Supports
the wide-range of cultural activities Downriver
- Assists
in the development and implementation of arts programming
- Works
collaboratively with local schools and agencies to insure equal access
and opportunities
- Promotes
the recognition of art and culture as a primary contributor to
economic development and the quality of life
- Offers
employment opportunities to artists/educators
- Salutes
outstanding corporate and individual contributions to the arts
