Residual
Group installation
Artists: Mary Jo Reedy Caruana, Erin Davis, Elroy Grandy, Elena Marcozzi, Michele Porter, Tim Porter, Adrienne Trupiano, Jean Headman-Pilon
The chance of dying from opioid dependency is the most painful experience a loved one may have to face. It can happen to anyone, regardless of income and/or social status. Each fatal case is a unique story exclusive to the proprietor. Once gone, all that is left are abstract narratives which manifest in idle tokens collected by the now deceased.
The proposed installation will, through commonly owned items, tell multiple stories. The idea of loss or ‘Residual’ will be conducted via chairs, void of a human presence, strewn with keepsakes that in total tells an abstract narrative of their previous owner

Residual - Community Engagement
Community Engagement
Visitors will be prompted to design a chair, take a Polaroid picture of their ‘Residual’ narrative and place it on a wall or bulletin board to tell their story or that of someone in their life. Again some narratives may be personal memorializing a friend or loved one and others be generalized observations about the opioid crisis.
Our objective is to evoke a visceral response to ‘Residual’ installation. Seeing the mostly disposable items void of human presence will a evoke a response of loss. And a that life is precious, more precious than the everyday disposable items we all collect.
