East River Folk Society presents Acoustic Open Mic

Second Saturdays at 7pm

Join East River Folk Society in it’s 31st season in their new home at the Downriver Council for the Arts, 81 Chestnut, Wyandotte.

Please join us for an evening of folk, acoustic and traditional music at 7:00pm. If you or someone you know is interested in performing, please come sign up for our open mic between 6:00 and 6:45. We have 8 to 10 open mic spots available. Open mic performers will perform 2 to 3 songs depending on the number of open mic performers.

We are returning to our original format from 30 years ago and including a special guest set after the intermission.

Special guest performer for February is Jeff Karoub, who grew up Downriver in a musical family, got his start as a singer-songwriter on the Eastriver stage in the early-to-mid ‘90s. Afterward, he moved across Michigan, building a family and journalism career, but never lost his passion for making music. Once back in the Detroit area, he worked to hone his craft, recording four albums under his own name and sharing his songs and stories on stages across the Great Lakes region. His music has been played on radio stations across the US, and tunes from newest album, ‘Pieces Break,’ also have made their way onto the airwaves in Canada and England. Dan MacDonald, host of ‘Hear+Now’ on 93.9 ‘The River’ and CKLW, praises his ‘gorgeous, shimmering songs.’ Jeff lives in Dearborn with his wife, three teenage girls and a Collie in an instrument-laden home.

Admission for this event is $3.00 for DCA and East River Folk Society members. For all non-members, including performers, admission is $5.00.

We will continue each month through May 2020 on the second Saturday of the month.
