This exhibition is a celebration of the art of poetry during National Poetry Month. The work visually highlights the spoken and written word through creative inspiration, method and implementation. The selected artists incorporate various forms of art and visual poetry, with or without poetic structure and adding to their purpose the human and the emotional effect words have on our form. Poetry is an exciting and complex human experience ascertaining the depths of influence upon our own self and others. The core of a poem is indicative of the writer and speaker as is a painting, illustration, design, photograph, animation, video, or sculpture; and due to this fact the Pose & Prose art exhibit is open to any and all forms of media. Be creative with this theme! Translate a poem into visual art. Create a piece that reflects emotion when reading poetry. Use words, text and/or pictures. We also encourage collaborations between writers and visual artists.

Exhibit Curator – Adrienne Trupiano is a multimedia artist and designer as well as a spoken word poet and writer. Adrienne has taught animation and design at College for Creative Studies and Henry Ford College while also working in the Detroit production and television industry as an art director and motion graphic designer. Downriver Council for the Arts has been grateful to have Adrienne as a youth instructor and mentor for many years.
