10th Annual Photography Exhibition - Online and In Person

THE DOWNRIVER COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS presents our 10th Annual Photography Exhibition.

Please note that this will be an in-person exhibit, with the option of also exhibiting online.

Reception: Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 6-8pm (We will be practicing safe social distancing and mask wearing!)

CATEGORIES:  There will be three categories for entries: COLOR, BLACK AND WHITE, and ARTISTICALLY ALTERED. The Artistically Altered image category may include the use of layers, overlays or filters in Photoshop, HDR, painting of photos, etc and may contain either color or black and white images. Sharpening softening, cropping and/or saturation/desaturation, but no other manipulation will be allowed for images in the Color or Black and White categories.

ONLINE: This year’s exhibit will include an online portion. Only in-person entries will be judged for prizes. To include your images in the online exhibit, please follow the directions on this entry form. There is no extra cost to include your works online if you are exhibiting in person, however there is a reduced fee option to only exhibit online. You are responsible for submitting your art online - the DCA will not photograph your in-person work and upload online for you.  

AWARDS FOR JUDGED IN-PERSON ENTRIES:  Best of Show $100. First Place $25 in each of 3 categories. Honorable mentions in each category awarded at the discretion of the Judge. Each category must have a minimum of 6 entries to be considered for prize money. The juror may move a photo from one category to another at their discretion.

JUDGED BY KAREN LARSON-VOLTZ:  Karen Larson-Voltz received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her studio practice engages photography, collage and book arts to investigate the dialectics of beholding and the translation between perception and material through lens-based imagery. She has exhibited internationally in China, South Korea, Slovenia, the United Kingdom and Iceland. Her work has been featured in national venues such as the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (Novato, CA), the Longview Museum of Fine Arts (Longview, TX), Power Plant Gallery at Duke University (Durham, N.C.) and at The Cooper Union (New York City, NY). Some of Karen’s artist books and collaborative projects are in the collections of Hellenic Centre for Photography (Athens, Greece), Nes Artist Residency (Skagaströnd, Iceland) and the Joan Flasch Artist Book Collection (SAIC, Chicago, IL.).
